What is a criminal
record?
We realise that some
fellow sex workers may not understand what a
criminal record means. Some of them may assume
that as long as they have not been sent to a
prison, they should not have any criminal
record.
A criminal record is a record of
a person's criminal history. If a person has
been charged for a criminal offence and has been
convicted by a court of law in Hong Kong,
regardless of whether the penalty is a fine,
imprisonment or suspended sentence of
imprisonment, he/she will have a criminal
record. This criminal record will be held at the
police and the court and cannot be
“erased”...

2 WORK
REPORT
2.1 October Gathering
– Information on crime evidence
collection
The September gathering
was postponed due to a typhoon. We were able to
have our sharing session on crime reporting
procedures, evidence collection and security
measures on 27 Oct.
We had a good
discussion that day and clarified some unclear
points, which definitely enhanced our
understanding on the problems that have to be
tackled.

Police harassment put
prostitutes at high risk
The
Province 19 Oct 2011
Some Vancouver cops
forced street prostitutes to engage in sex with
them on the promise the prostitutes wouldn't be
arrested, a witness at the Missing Women
Commission of Inquiry charged
Tuesday.
"One of the problems faced by
street-level, sex-trade workers was that
Vancouver Police Department members would force
them to engage in sexual services in exchange
for not arresting them or fining them," said
Kate Shannon...
Comment:
Violence and harassment are not uncommon
among sex workers, yet it is horrifying to know
that the police officers, who are supposed to
provide protection to the citizens, are one of
the predators and abuse sex workers with their
power.
We do hope that the notion "sex
workers are worthless, immoral and should be
subjected to regulations from the power" will no
longer be valid in the future, and sex workers
will be brought a safe and discrimination-free
work environment.
